Growing up means knowing your plumbing. Your dad may have been after you for years, trying to teach some basics of plumbing and other little things around the house, but you managed to dodge him and learn little to nothing of value. Now that you are technically an adult and moving into your own place, you realize how important it was to know a little something about basic plumbing around the house.
Have no fear, the internet can teach you some things about fixing simple plumbing issues in your house. Alternatively, you can video call your dad and have him take a look at your leaky faucets and non-functioning flush. If you don’t have the time or the energy to do this yourself, you can always call the local plumber.
Big plumbing troubles will keep popping up around your house regularly that you can do nothing about but call in a plumber. Gilbert Plumbing has many experienced plumbers who can diagnose and fix just about anything in the house for you, letting you live for the next few months in peace.
However, you can’t just keep calling a plumber for every little plumbing problem inside your bathroom or kitchen. It would make your life ten times easier to learn how to fix simple plumbing problems, while Gilbert Plumbing can handle the big stuff for you.
Here are some simple plumbing-related tips that everybody should know about.
Clearing the Drain
Clogged drains are perhaps the most annoying and the most frequent issue that arises in bathrooms and kitchens. Clearing them up often just takes a minute at most. You can either invest in expensive drain cleaners that chemically remove whatever was in the way, or you can use an inexpensive drain snake that can bring up the responsible party for your drain issues.
Clogged Showerheads
There is nothing more upsetting than a low-pressure, barely dripping showerhead when you are in the mood for a nice long hot shower. Showerheads can become clogged, too, affecting the water flow and pressure through the head. Simply remove the showerhead, soak it in warm water and vinegar and remove the mineral deposits by gently brushing it away.
Loosen Water Pipe Fittings
If you need to take apart the pipes to check for issues, but you just can’t unscrew it yourself, it does not mean you don’t have enough strength in your muscles. Sometimes pipes get jammed due to the pipe dope, but it is nothing that a little heat can’t solve. Apply some heat to make sure that the drain trap or pipe comes loose easily. Of course, you must never attempt this with a gas pipe.
Invest in Thread Tape
If your pipes or showerheads are leaking, there is an inexpensive and simple way around it. Buy some thread tape from the local hardware store and wrap it around the thread from where the water is leaking. Viola! Problem solved.
If you can’t figure out what the issue is, or you think it is way beyond your pay scale, call in a plumber from Gilbert Plumbing immediately to take a look. No matter the problem, they can fix anything in your kitchen, bathroom, water heaters in no time.
